Description
Product Overview
The Simpsons Trafalgar T3 sets a 26 mm Sovereign grade synthetic knot into a lathe turned resin handle. It is the largest brush in the Trafalgar series.
The T3 is the largest brush in the Trafalgar series, at 100 mm overall on a 50 mm lathe turned handle. The larger knot covers more of the face in one pass and carries enough lather for a multi pass shave. Simpsons have been making shaving brushes since Alexander Simpson started production in 1919, and the brushes are made today on the Isle of Man.

Lathering Performance
Synthetic filaments hold water on the surface of the fibre rather than absorbing it, so the knot loads quickly, releases lather freely and shakes almost dry in seconds. There is no break in period; the brush feels the same on the first shave as on the hundredth. The Sovereign fibre is cut to give soft tips over a firm base, so the T3 lifts soap out of a hard puck and builds a dense lather quickly.
Who This Brush Is Best For
No animal hair is used in a synthetic knot.
A 26 mm knot holds a generous volume of lather.
The largest Trafalgar knot covers more of the face in one pass.
Getting the Best from Your Brush
- Soak the knot in warm water for a minute or two before you start, then shake out the excess.
- Load the brush by working it over the soap or cream until the hair is fully charged.
- Build the lather in a bowl or on the face, adding water a little at a time until it turns glossy.
- A synthetic knot does not need breaking in, so it loads and feels the same from the first shave.
Adding water gradually rather than all at once is the usual difference between a thin lather and a thick one.
Care and Storage
Rinse the knot thoroughly under warm running water after every shave until the water runs clear, then shake out the excess and stand the brush bristles down so it can dry. Avoid boiling water, harsh detergents and leaving the brush sitting wet in an enclosed space. Do not stand the brush on its knot to dry. Soak the knot in warm water before the shave and keep the handle out of the water. Simpsons advise this for all their brushes, as it prolongs the life of the handle and the setting of the knot.

Simpsons Shaving Brushes
Simpsons brushes carry the name of Alexander Simpson, who started making shaving brushes in 1919. We stock the Trafalgar synthetics in three sizes and the Chubby 2 in Platinum fibre. The Commodore X3 in Best badger is currently out of stock.
The Simpsons ranges we carry
Trafalgar T1, T2 and T3
The same faux ivory handle and Sovereign grade synthetic knot in three sizes, from the compact 23 mm T1 to the 26 mm T3. A synthetic knot needs no soaking, dries quickly and contains no animal hair.
Chubby 2
Simpsons' classic Chubby shape: a short handle under a wide 27 mm knot. Ours uses Platinum fibre, the synthetic Simpsons developed for a more luxurious feel on the face.
Commodore X3
Currently out of stock. For a badger brush available now, see our silvertip badger brushes.
A traditional badger brush with a 24 mm knot of Best grade hair, which Simpsons describes as finer and more pliable than Pure. The faux ivory handle is the tallest of our Simpsons at 51 mm.

Which Simpsons brush suits you?
Knot size
A smaller knot like the 23 mm T1 is easy to control around the nose and lips and packs well for travel. A larger knot like the 26 mm T3 or 27 mm Chubby 2 covers more of the face in each pass and holds more lather for a three-pass shave.
Loft
Loft is the length of the knot above the handle. A shorter loft, as on the T1, feels firmer and scrubs more. A longer loft, as on the T3 and Chubby 2, feels softer and flexes more.
Synthetic or badger
Synthetic knots are ready to use without soaking, dry quickly and suit soaps and creams alike. Badger holds warm water well and gives the traditional feel many wet shavers prefer. Read our guide to boar, badger and synthetic brushes.
Where to start
- First brush or travel: Trafalgar T1 or T2
- Everyday all-rounder: Trafalgar T3
- Dense, wide synthetic: Chubby 2 Platinum
- Traditional badger: Commodore X3 (currently out of stock; silvertip badger brushes are available now)
Caring for a Simpsons brush
- Rinse the knot under running water after every shave until no soap is left.
- Shake out the water and pat the knot on a towel.
- Let it dry in open air. A stand that holds the brush knot down helps water drain away from the handle.
- If you shave daily, two brushes used in turn give each one longer to dry.
- Once a month, wash the knot gently with a mild shampoo and rinse well.
