Product Overview
The Taconic Shave Wood and Chrome Synthetic Shaving Brush sets a dense 22 mm ultra fine synthetic knot into a finished beechwood and chrome handle and is supplied with an acrylic stand in a gift box.
Taconic describes the fibre as an ultra fine synthetic with soft tips and good backbone, which is why reviewers compare it with badger. It holds heat and water well for a synthetic, and it dries within minutes of a rinse.

Lathering Performance
Synthetic filaments hold water on the surface of the fibre rather than absorbing it, so the knot loads quickly, releases lather freely and shakes almost dry in seconds. There is no break in period; the brush feels the same on the first shave as on the hundredth. Taconic describes this fibre as ultra fine with good backbone behind the tips, so the brush loads a hard soap readily and holds heat better than a coarse synthetic.
Who This Brush Is Best For
No animal hair is used in a synthetic knot.
The beechwood and chrome handle is a change from moulded resin.
A synthetic knot shakes almost dry, so it packs sooner after a shave.
Getting the Best from Your Brush
- Soak the knot in warm water for a minute or two before you start, then shake out the excess.
- Load the brush by working it over the soap or cream until the hair is fully charged.
- Build the lather in a bowl or on the face, adding water a little at a time until it turns glossy.
- A synthetic knot does not need breaking in, so it loads and feels the same from the first shave.
Adding water gradually rather than all at once is the usual difference between a thin lather and a thick one.
Care and Storage
Rinse the knot thoroughly under warm running water after every shave until the water runs clear, then shake out the excess and stand the brush bristles down so it can dry. Avoid boiling water, harsh detergents and leaving the brush sitting wet in an enclosed space. Do not stand the brush on its knot to dry. The acrylic stand holds the brush knot down between shaves so water drains away from the base of the knot. Dry the wooden section of the handle as well rather than leaving it standing in water.

Petez –
One of the best knots I’ve ever used. Soft tips, just right backbone. BUT….. the handle is way way way WAY too heavy. There’s a reason Simpson and Thater and every other mega premium brush maker uses plastic or wood handles. Balance. All my other brushes can be placed bristle down leaning against the side of my lather bowls during a shave. The heavy handle on this one pushes it down into your lather. It’s just FAR too heavy for me.

Builds good lather, holds enough water to do the job. The heavy real wood handle doesn’t bother me.

This is the first synthetic shaving brush I have purchased and used. I really like it so far. Other reviewers said it’s too heavy. I don’t think so, but you’ll have to decide for yourself. This brush doesn’t hog the shaving soap. It creates a nice lather. It does come with a stand. Only drawback is that this brush didn’t fit on my razor stand. No biggie since it has a stand.

Im a 68 yo woman and have been washing my face with a shaving brush for many years. It was time for a new one, one made without any plastic. I did my research and discovered the inhuman way natural bristles are harvested from animals and knew I wasn’t going to patronize this practice, I would be buying synthetic bristles. I found the Taconic shave brush and decided to try it. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Well made, lathers nicely, not too heavy, rinses easily. I will be buying this again in the future.
