The Variant is Parker’s adjustable. A knob at the base of the handle moves the blade gap through five settings, 1 being the mildest and 5 the most aggressive, so the same razor can be set gently for the neck and firmer for the cheeks, or simply dialled up as your technique improves.

Parker lists a genuine brass frame in satin chrome plating, 4 in. overall and 4 oz. or 110 g. That is a heavy razor, and the weight matters more on an adjustable than on a fixed one because at the higher settings you want the razor doing the work, not your hand.

What This Set Does

Every fixed razor is a guess about your beard. An adjustable removes the guess. Start at 1 or 2, shave for a week, and move up one setting at a time until the shave is close without leaving the skin sore. If a blade turns out to be sharper than expected, you drop a setting instead of buying a different razor.

A stand keeps the razor or brush organized and allows a rinsed brush to dry in an open, ventilated position between shaves. That is the practical job it does: everything has a place, nothing is left lying on a wet counter, and the brush sits in the open air rather than on a shelf.

Getting Started

Start at setting 1 or 2 for the first week. Move up one setting at a time, and only after a few shaves at the current one.

A new badger knot may shed a few hairs over the first several uses. That settles down.

Care and Storage

Rinse the razor after every shave and work the adjustment through its range under running water from time to time so soap does not build up in the mechanism. Rinse the brush until the water runs clear, squeeze gently rather than wringing it, and hang it on the stand to dry.

Keep unused blades dry and stored in their original packaging. Place used blades in a sealed Razor Blade Bank or another puncture-resistant container. Never place loose blades directly in household trash.
