Black badger is the stiffest badger grade, so the brush has plenty of backbone for working a hard soap. The 20 mm knot is the common all round size, and the long loft gives the bristles room to splay across the puck as they load.

Lathering Performance
Black badger is the stiffest and coarsest of the badger grades. The extra backbone means the brush lifts soap out of a hard puck without going limp, and the firmer tips give a scrubbier feel on the face than pure or silvertip hair. The long loft on this 20 mm knot lets the bristles splay over the soap as they load, so the brush picks up plenty of product and releases it steadily through a multi pass shave.

Getting the Best from Your Brush
- Soak the knot in warm water for a minute or two before you start, then shake out the excess.
- Load the brush by working it over the soap or cream until the hair is fully charged.
- Build the lather in a bowl or on the face, adding water a little at a time until it turns glossy.
- Give a new brush several shaves to break in before judging how it loads and how soft it feels.
Adding water gradually rather than all at once is the usual difference between a thin lather and a thick one.
Care and Storage
Rinse the knot thoroughly under warm running water after every shave until the water runs clear, then shake out the excess and stand the brush bristles down so it can dry. Avoid boiling water, harsh detergents and leaving the brush sitting wet in an enclosed space. Do not stand the brush on its knot to dry. The acrylic stand holds the brush knot down between shaves so water drains away from the base of the knot.

Switched from boar to this badger brush, and wow! What a difference! The brush lathered my shave soaps/creams much faster than the boar brush, feels MUCH better on my face (so much softer) and I was able to use less soap/cream. Definitely worth the money! The handle is actually beefier than it looks on the picture which makes it nice to hold with wet hands and I was impressed there were no molding lines running anywhere on the brush handle – it’s completely smooth. Very good finish. The stand looks like some of the acrylic ones I’ve seen selling for $6. Overall, a great value and would recommend it to anyone!

I must say, I was skeptical to buy an expensive brush for my first try at DE shaving. When this arrived, it arrived in a nice box, wrapped and smelling of nothing but quality. I let it sit in hot water for about 10 minutes, then massaged in some conditioner. Let that sit for another 20 minutes or so and then rinsed off. I have yet to see any hairs fall out of the brush.
I will say, its a good idea to let the brush sit in warm water for about 5 minutes prior to using it. DO NOT shake it dry before use!! All you have to do is pull it out of the water, let it drip dry (about 5 seconds) and then move it to your coffee cup or bowl and start lathering up!
Glad I bought this, as it really makes shaving much better with a good lather. (I use Jack Black Shaving creme, but I might try something else in the future to see what is available.)
