Description

Product Overview

This is the first step of the traditional wet shave: a few drops of oil before the lather. GROOM’s formulation of vegetable oils creates an extra layer of protection between the blade and the skin, so the razor glides evenly instead of dragging.

The base reads like a salad of proper oils: grapeseed, sunflower, jojoba, hemp seed and soybean, scented with the house pine, sage and juniper. GROOM positions it squarely at sensitive skin, and recommends it under both its soap and its cream. 30 ml.

What This Oil Does

Razor burn is friction. A lather cushions the blade, but on sensitive skin it is often not enough. A pre-shave oil puts a thin film of fat directly on the skin first, and the lather sits on top of it, so the blade meets oil before it can meet skin.

GROOM states the result plainly: the skin is left less irritated, which means more comfort. It is the product GROOM itself points sensitive-skinned customers to before its soap, cream and gel.

Who This Is Best For

Sensitive skin
The layer of protection GROOM recommends before any of its lathers.
Traditional shavers
The classic first step of a full wet-shave routine.
Irritation-prone spots
Necks and jawlines that redden under a blade.

How To Use It

Massage a few drops into damp skin before applying the lather, then shave as usual. The oil stays on the skin under the lather rather than mixing into it.

A little goes a long way: 30 ml is a few drops per shave, not a palmful.

Care and Storage

Close the bottle after use and keep it somewhere cool and out of direct sun.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I apply it?
Before the lather. Massage a few drops into damp skin, then build your soap or cream lather on top and shave as usual.
Who is it for?
GROOM designed it to improve shaving for sensitive skin, and recommends it before its soap, cream and gel for anyone who reddens under a blade.
What does it smell like?
The fresh, herbal fragrance of pine, sage and juniper, matching the rest of GROOM’s shaving range.
What is in it?
Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja Oil, Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil, Copaifera Reticulata Balsam Oil, Illicium Verum Leaf Oil, Parfum of natural origin.
Does it clog the razor?
Used as a few drops under the lather it rinses through normally. It is a thin film on the skin, not a paste.
How long does a bottle last?
It is used a few drops at a time, so the 30 ml bottle covers a long run of shaves.
Can I use it with the transparent gel?
Yes. GROOM notes its shaving products can be combined for increased protection, and oil under the gel keeps the line visible.
Where is it made?
GROOM makes its products in-house at its Montreal workshop, and states that it has done so since 2013. GROOM describes its formulas as crafted from natural ingredients from renewable sources, and states that its products are not tested on animals. Since March 2021 GROOM has been certified plastic negative by a third party.
