Product Overview
The Parker 82R is a butterfly open double edge safety razor built on a genuine brass frame with a chrome plated finish. The head opens by twisting the base of the handle, so a blade is changed without taking the razor apart.
It weighs 3.2 oz at 4.2 in overall, which makes it the longest razor in the Parker butterfly range covered here.
The handle is textured along its length, which helps keep a grip when hands are wet and soapy.

Butterfly Open Head and Blade Changes
Butterfly open razors are also called twist to open. The head stays attached to the handle. Turning the knob at the base of the handle counterclockwise swings the two doors on top of the head apart, and turning it clockwise closes them down onto the blade.
Because the razor does not separate into parts, there is no top cap or base plate to hold while a blade is being loaded, and no small components to drop in a sink.
Who This Razor Is Best For
At 4.2 in it is the longest of these Parker butterfly models, which suits larger hands.
The 3.2 oz mass is spread down a long handle rather than gathered under the head.
The butterfly head opens from the handle, so the blade is swapped without separating the razor into parts.
Weight and Shaving Feel
At 3.2 oz spread over 4.2 in the 82R distributes its weight along a long handle rather than concentrating it at the head.
How a razor feels is subjective and varies from one shaver to another. Beard type, blade choice, lather and technique all affect the result, so treat these descriptions as a general guide rather than a promise about your own shave.
Getting the Best from Your Razor
- Prepare the skin first. Many shavers find a hot shower or a warm damp towel before the shave makes a difference.
- Build lather with a shave soap or cream. A shave brush lifts the hair and spreads the lather more evenly.
- Let the razor do the work and apply very little pressure. Hold the head at a shallow angle to the skin rather than pressing it flat.
- Take the first pass with the grain, then reduce further on later passes if you want to.
- Rinse the head under running water between passes. On a butterfly razor the doors can be opened briefly to flush lather out from under the blade.
- Change the blade once it starts to feel rough or drag. Blade life varies between individuals.
Care and Storage
Rinse the razor under warm running water after every shave and shake the water off. Open the doors from time to time and rinse under the blade so that soap does not build up in the head. Dry the razor and leave it where air can reach it rather than in a closed cabinet or a sealed travel tube.
The finish is plated. Avoid abrasive polishes, scouring pads and strong household cleaners, which can cut through a plated finish.
Keep unused blades dry and stored in their original packaging. Place used blades in a sealed Razor Blade Bank or another puncture-resistant container. Never place loose blades directly in household trash.

Eric Morrison –
I’m no expert but this razor works well for me. I like it better than the Jegger one I started with. A bit more aggressive. I like the butterfly blade change and that it doesn’t clog.
Ken Oliver –
This razor is an impressive replica of the classic Gillette Superspeed, with a similar bottom-twist knob that mirrors the design of the original Superspeed razors (unlike some Parker models that twist in the middle). It’s slightly more aggressive than an Edwin Jagger DE8x series, comparable to a 4-5 setting on a Gillette Slim or Fatboy. The razor has a generous blade angle sweet spot and is very forgiving, making it an ideal recommendation for beginners. The twist-to-open (TTO) mechanism is smooth, ensuring perfect blade alignment, and the plating is consistently polished and flawless. Parker’s quality control issues of the past appear to be fully resolved in this model, making it a strong contender in the DE razor market.
Abdel R –
I love the sharpness of Feather blades, but they often led to nicks with my Alabastron razor when I first started using safety razors. The Parker 82R head allows me to enjoy the close shave from a Feather blade without the frequent cuts. This razor has a nice weight and balance, and the handle’s shape and texture give me a secure grip, even when it’s wet. The butterfly mechanism makes cleaning and blade changes quick and easy. Highly recommended!
