Product Overview

The Omega Hi-Brush 146113 sets a 26 mm Hi-Brush synthetic knot into a chrome plated ABS handle.

At 26 mm this is the largest knot in this group of Hi-Brush models, so it carries more lather per load. The PBT fibre resists odour, needs no soaking and dries within minutes of a rinse. Omega have been making shaving brushes in Italy for decades and are the best known name in boar brushes; the Hi-Brush range is their synthetic line.

Lathering Performance

Synthetic filaments hold water on the surface of the fibre rather than absorbing it, so the knot loads quickly, releases lather freely and shakes almost dry in seconds. There is no break in period and no soaking needed; the brush feels the same on the first shave as on the hundredth. At 26 mm the knot carries more lather per load than the smaller Hi-Brush models, and the tapered filaments keep the tips soft against the face.

Who This Brush Is Best For

Vegan and cruelty free
No animal hair is used in a synthetic knot.
Bowl latherers
A 26 mm knot holds a generous volume of lather.
Travellers
A synthetic knot shakes almost dry, so it packs sooner after a shave.

Getting the Best from Your Brush

  1. Soak the knot in warm water for a minute or two before you start, then shake out the excess.
  2. Load the brush by working it over the soap or cream until the hair is fully charged.
  3. Build the lather in a bowl or on the face, adding water a little at a time until it turns glossy.
  4. A synthetic knot does not need breaking in, so it loads and feels the same from the first shave.

Adding water gradually rather than all at once is the usual difference between a thin lather and a thick one.

Care and Storage

Rinse the knot thoroughly under warm running water after every shave until the water runs clear, then shake out the excess and leave the brush to dry bristles down. Synthetic fibre needs no soaking before the shave and no conditioning, but avoid boiling water, which can soften the filaments and cost the knot its shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the knot?
The knot is 26 mm and the brush stands 112 mm overall. It holds a generous volume of lather, which suits bowl lathering and longer multi pass shaves.
What is the fibre actually made of?
Omega make their Hi-Brush fibre from PBT, a thermoplastic polyester. The filaments are corrugated along their length and chemically tapered towards the tip, which is what gives the knot backbone at the base and a soft feel where it meets the skin.
Why choose a synthetic brush over badger or boar?
A synthetic knot uses no animal hair, needs no breaking in, dries faster than natural hair and carries no animal smell. It also costs less than a badger brush of the same size.
Can I use this brush with both soap and cream?
Yes. A synthetic knot works with hard soaps, soft soaps and creams, and can be used for bowl lathering or face lathering.
How do I prepare the brush before shaving?
No soaking is needed. Wet the knot under the tap, shake out the excess and load your soap or cream straight away.
Will a synthetic brush shed?
Synthetic filament knots are set into the handle and do not normally shed. An occasional stray filament in the first few uses is not unusual.
How should the brush be dried?
Rinse the knot thoroughly, shake out the water and stand the brush bristles down so air can circulate. Do not store it wet in a closed cabinet or a sealed travel tube.
How long does a synthetic brush last?
A synthetic knot holds its shape well with normal use. Rinse it thoroughly, dry it bristles down and keep it away from boiling water, which can damage the filaments.
