The NATU synthetic shaving brush pairs a 22 mm synthetic knot with a machined aluminium handle finished in anodised colour. It is made in Portugal, and it is a modern brush rather than a traditional one: no animal hair, no break-in period, and the same behaviour on the first shave as on the hundredth.

Synthetic fibre holds less water than badger or boar, which is why the brush rinses out in seconds and is dry again by the next morning. Aluminium keeps the weight down to about 100 g, so the brush sits light in the hand while you work a lather.

Five anodised colours are available: Green, Black, Copper, Gold and Grey.

Anodising is a dyeing process rather than a paint, so slight differences between production batches, small spots and minor milling marks on the aluminium can occur. NATU notes this and it does not affect how the brush works.

How To Use It

Wet the knot under warm water and shake out the excess. Load straight from the puck or the tub for twenty to thirty seconds, until the brush looks pasty rather than foamy. Then build the lather on your face or in a bowl, adding water a few drops at a time until it turns glossy.

It works with everything in shaving soaps and creams, hard soaps and soft Italian croaps alike.

Care and Storage

Rinse the brush thoroughly after every use so no soap is left in the knot. Squeeze gently, never wring, then shake out the water and stand the brush knot down in a dry spot with air around it. Synthetic fibre does not mind being left wet the way natural hair does, but it will last longer if you dry it properly.

Does a synthetic brush need breaking in?
No. Synthetic fibre behaves the same from the first shave. That is the main practical difference from boar.

Will it work with hard soaps?
Yes. A 22 mm synthetic knot has enough backbone to load a hard puck. It holds less water than badger, so add water in smaller amounts as you build the lather.

How long does it take to dry?
Overnight in a ventilated bathroom. Synthetic fibre absorbs far less water than natural hair.
