The Omega S10081 S-Brush sets a 24 mm synthetic knot into a ribbed chrome plated ABS handle, in the same beehive shape Omega use for their boar model 10081.

Omega describe the S-Brush fibre as a hog bristle effect synthetic: it is cut and set to behave like their boar knots, with real backbone for hard soaps, but it needs no breaking in and dries in minutes. Omega have been making shaving brushes in Italy for decades and are the best known name in boar brushes; the Hi-Brush range is their synthetic line.

Synthetic filaments hold water on the surface of the fibre rather than absorbing it, so the knot loads quickly, releases lather freely and shakes almost dry in seconds. There is no break in period and no soaking needed; the brush feels the same on the first shave as on the hundredth. Omega set this fibre to imitate the feel of their boar knots, so it has more backbone than a soft synthetic and lifts soap out of a hard puck readily.

Getting the Best from Your Brush

1. Soak the knot in warm water for a minute or two before you start, then shake out the excess.
2. Load the brush by working it over the soap or cream until the hair is fully charged.
3. Build the lather in a bowl or on the face, adding water a little at a time until it turns glossy.
4. A synthetic knot does not need breaking in, so it loads and feels the same from the first shave.

Adding water gradually rather than all at once is the usual difference between a thin lather and a thick one.

Care and Storage

Rinse the knot thoroughly under warm running water after every shave until the water runs clear, then shake out the excess and leave the brush to dry bristles down. Synthetic fibre needs no soaking before the shave and no conditioning, but avoid boiling water, which can soften the filaments and cost the knot its shape.
