Product Overview

The Parker SRRW is a clip type barber razor with a rosewood handle and a stainless steel blade arm. It takes an ordinary double edge blade snapped in half, and it arrives with five half blades.

Rosewood is dense and close grained, so the handle takes a deep polish and grips well even when your hand is wet. Like any natural material the figure varies, and no two handles come out the same.

At 1.6 oz on a 5.6 in frame it matches the sheesham SRDW for size and sits between the resin and all steel models for weight.

How a Clip Type Barber Razor Works

A barber razor of this kind is not a traditional hollow ground straight razor. Nothing is honed or stropped. You snap an ordinary double edge blade in half and clip one half into the blade arm, which gives you a fresh, genuinely sharp edge every time for the price of half a blade.

The clip to close mechanism is the part that matters. The arm folds over the blade and clips shut, which holds the half blade flat and square along its whole length. A blade that sits square does not chatter, and chatter is what causes the nicks people associate with these razors.

Who This Razor Is Best For

Barbers and students
The standard tool for outlining, necklines and beard detailing.
Straight razor shaving without honing
The look and angle of a straight razor with no stropping and no maintenance.
Natural wood
Each rosewood handle has its own grain and colour.

Weight and Shaving Feel

The SRRW weighs 1.6 oz and measures 5.6 in. Rosewood is denser than most handle woods, so the razor keeps a little more weight towards the hand than the pine handled SRP does, and the close grain holds a grip when wet.

How a razor feels is subjective and varies from one shaver to another. Beard type, blade choice, lather and technique all affect the result, so treat these descriptions as a general guide rather than a promise about your own shave.

Getting the Best from Your Razor

  1. Prepare the skin first. Many shavers find a hot shower or a warm damp towel before the shave makes a difference.
  2. Build lather with a shave soap or cream. A shave brush lifts the hair and spreads the lather more evenly.
  3. Let the razor do the work and apply very little pressure. Hold the head at a shallow angle to the skin rather than pressing it flat.
  4. Take the first pass with the grain, then reduce further on later passes if you want to.
  5. Rinse the head under running water between passes rather than tapping the razor on the sink.
  6. Change the blade once it starts to feel rough or drag. Blade life varies between individuals.

Care and Storage

Rinse the razor under warm running water after every shave and shake the water off. Open the clip arm and rinse underneath it as well, because lather and cut hair collect there more than anywhere else on the razor.

Remove the blade before you put the razor away and never store it with a blade clipped in. Dry the rosewood handle rather than leaving it wet, and do not soak it or leave it standing in water. Rinse and dry the blade arm and keep the razor somewhere dry and open to the air.

Keep unused blades dry and stored in their original packaging. Place used blades in a sealed Razor Blade Bank or another puncture-resistant container. Never place loose blades directly in household trash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a real straight razor?
Not in the traditional sense. A traditional straight razor has a permanent blade that has to be honed and stropped. This is a barber razor, sometimes called a shavette, which holds a disposable half double edge blade. It gives you the same angle, the same long edge and the same technique, with none of the honing.
Which blades fit the Parker SRRW? Any standard double edge blade, snapped in half. That is the whole point of the design: you are not tied to a proprietary blade and you can use whichever DE blade already suits your face. Pre-cut half blades are also sold if you would rather not snap them yourself.
Is it harder to use than a safety razor?
It asks more of you at first. The blade is fully exposed and you set the angle yourself rather than the head setting it for you, so the first few shaves should be slow and deliberate. Most people start by using it only for edges and sideburns and build up from there.
How do I change the blade safely?
Open the clip arm away from your fingers, lift the old half blade out by its short ends rather than its edge, and drop it straight into a blade bank. Set the new half blade flat in the arm, check it is sitting square along its whole length, then clip the arm shut. Never push a blade into place with your thumb over the edge.
How heavy is the Parker SRRW?
It weighs 1.6 oz and measures 5.6 in overall.
Do I need to snap the blades myself?
You can, and the blades supplied with this razor are already halved. A standard DE blade snaps cleanly in half while still folded in its paper wrapper, which keeps your fingers away from the edge. Pre-cut half blades are also available if you prefer.
How many shaves should I get from a blade?
This varies from person to person and depends on beard type, preparation and blade brand. Change the blade once it starts to feel rough or drag over the skin.
Can I take it in hand luggage?
Before travelling, check the current airline and airport-security rules for carrying razor blades. Never pack the razor with a blade loaded.
How should used blades be discarded?
Place used blades in a sealed Razor Blade Bank or another puncture-resistant container. Never place loose blades directly in household trash.

    Comfy and Nice Shave
Although it will take me a few more shaves to really get used to the angles and methods of straight razor shaving I am happy with the quality, feel and finish of this razor.

I have been wanting to purchase a straight razor for quite some time now, and finally pulled the trigger. It is definitely going to take some more practice to master this new form of shaving, but it is extremely sharp and sturdy. Very well-made and would highly recommend. However, don’t forget to order additional razor blades because it only comes with five of them. I ordered a box of Shark razors that I am extremely happy with as well. You won’t be disappointed for the price. I hope to maintain it for the rest of my days…

    Nice!
Being a straight razor guy, this shavette does a great job when I am in a rush.
