I’ve been using a brush for shaving for about a year. When I started with a brush and shaving soap I went to a high end mens shaving store at the Mall of America and bought my gear. I paid a pretty hefty price and thought I’d bought the best … but the brush didn’t create much lather and started losing bristles. I reviewed the shaving brush product on Amazon and bought this product based on its reviews. I thought that spending so much on a shaving brush was a bit foolish, but after using this brush for a month I can honestly say that it’s worth the money. The brush has made shaving a joy. Tons of lather. My razor glides over my skin and the shave is super close without any irrational. I highly recommend that you buy this product … it’ll make shaving a pleasure.

Let me start by saying the following, then I’ll get onto the brush itself:
If you buy anything more expensive than this, then you are just wasting your money.
I know “Silver-tip” badger hair is supposed to be the top-end stuff. But if I’m being brutally honest, they feel pretty much exactly the same. But even if you could detect a difference, is that difference really worth an extra- what- $80?
Performance aside, I imagine there might be some sort of “prestige” associated with the silver-tip variety of bristle, since its the most expensive and all.
But let me be real: when will you ever have people over your house, looking in your master bathroom, gawking at your fancy badger hair?
“Oh dang, this is SILVERTIP badger? You must be extra fancy.” No, that will most certainly never happen.
Now, if you were a barber, and wanted to give your customers the ultimate luxury experience, I get why you’d want the fancy-looking stuff.
But to your average consumer, anything that costs more than this is just a waste of money.
–On to the actual product–
It is far more attractive in person than the pictures let on. It comes with a nice little stand. (Although I use one I made myself)
I bought this as an upgrade to $7 boars hair brush I had been using previously. And while the silver tip stuff might be nonsense, badger hair in general REALLY IS better than boars hair.
It’s noticeably softer, yet somehow stiffer at the same time? It retains water better than the boars hair, and I genuinely believe it results in a better shave. (That really surprised me, actually. I bought one out of curiosity just to see if it was better)
Some reviewers have commented that it has a strong, musky smell or whatever.
But honestly? I haven’t noticed anything. Since day 1 mine has never smelled like anything other than the shave soap I used with it.
Others have commented that it constantly sheds, or falls apart. Again, other than one or two bristles in the first week or so (which is to be expected with ANY kind of brush), I haven’t had a shedding problem.
I should also point out that I ALWAYS hang it up by the handle, and I always rinse the soap and flick the water out of it when I’m done. The latter might not strictly be necessary, but the importance of the former cannot be overstated.
–Conclusion–
This is a really nice upgrade from a boars hair brush. It looks nice, feels great, works wonderfully, and really adds to the luxury shaving experience. And all at a really great price.

I’ve had this brush for 6 years now using it at least five days a week. It looks like I’ve only had it for a month. I’ve owned other brushes and have used a few of my dad’s brushes who also wet shaves. This brush seems to create the best lather and definitely has a lot of hair in comparison to other brushes I have used. The hair is very soft. Take care of this brush and it will take care of you. I can’t think of any reason why I would need to spend more money on a more expensive brush in the future.

This brush is just the right stiffness, and even after washing it with shampoo after receiving it, no bristles lost. It holds just the right amount of moisture and the spread of my lather is near perfect. I had been using a Proraso brush, but this one has bumped that one to backup status, AND it’s easier to place in a holder!
