Not a whole lot to say. Love this brush. It didn’t smell awful out of the box. Was, and still is, extremely soft and fluffy. After a few months now I am starting to see the random single hair in the soap. My previous brush was from a gift set, from Target. It was good but began losing hairs almost immediately. In comparison, I genuinely surprised how soft this brush was, right out of the box. I also have the Parker travel brush (stores inside the long aluminum handle). I prefer the short stubby handle over the long cylinder of their travel brush. Anyways, only mentioning those two as reference.
One final point. Last work trip I made before I got the travel set I thought I left this brush behind in the hotel. I was prepared by rebuy it. In fact I almost placed my order mid drive but decided to double check my luggage.

I recommend, particularly if you are new to using brushes to shave and want to test it out as opposed to other methods. This is a quality brush at a reasonable price to start exploring. Even an experienced shaver would appreciate this brush. The ultimate recommendation is that I purchased this for my father for Christmas.

– con: Bristles still prick/poke after 4 months of use and are not softening up as quickly as other brushes;
– con: Bristles don’t hold water and warms as well as other brushes, and dry out a little quicker;
– con: Handle doesn’t fit on my stand, minor inconvenience and I made a slight modification; and
– con: Bristles still come out once in awhile and, while that is expected, I am a little fearful that is coming from the knot inside the handle.
FULL REVIEW:
I recently started to experiment with different shaving methods. I decided to try wet shaving with a safety razor. A lot of the vendors I researched and shopped with, notably the Art of Shaving, all recommended looking for a real badger hair brush to help lather up. However, a lot of the brushes were very expensive–some over $80, $100, and $120 dollars. I did not want to try out shaving with a safety razor with expensive items, to only end up not liking it after spending a lot of money.
I am across this Parker brush and it had a lot of strong reviews, so I decided to try it. The price was right and it was all badger bristles.
The brush itself appears to be constructed well. The handle is a hard piece of plastic, not a cheap piece of plastic but a hard type. The handle fits nicely in my hand and it has nice contours which mold around your grasping fingers. It is not cheap or cracking.
The bristles initially had a slight animal/musky smell, but after one use that went away and it has not returned. The first use also resulted in many lost bristles, and the few uses after that also lost a fair amount of bristles. The bristles still fall once in awhile a little more than some other brushes I have used. Only having this brush for about four months, this is a little bit of a concern that the knot is failing inside the handle. This is only speculation, but from my experience with other brushes, the bristles generally should stay in longer.
The bristles hold the shaving cream well and apply it to my face well. They really can lather up a small dot of shaving soap into a big foamy cream very quickly and with minimal effort. The bristles also do not stay greasy after using and washing it. The only drawback I have with the bristles as to the application of shaving cream, is when you are pushing down perpendicularly into your face (i.e., under your nose/upper lip), the bristles really still poke/prick your face. I haven’t experienced this as much with other brushes, let alone one that has been used for about four months. It can be rather uncomfortable, especially right under your nose. But other than that, the bristles feel great on the rest of my face and neck.
One other drawback, if you purchase it with another stand (I bought it with this stand for my brush and razor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3LVMMQ/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1), the handle doesn’t fit and you have to hang it at the point where the bristles come out of the handle. This is a minor issue, but I imagine it could be a bigger issue with other stands.
I also need to point out that the seller/owner sent 1-2 e-mails regarding the brush, how to use it, how to clean it, and how to care for it. The e-mails were really detailed and provided a thorough amount of advice. This was greatly appreciated and very few if sellers do this anymore. Great service.
TIP: I bought a shaving bowl to mix the shaving soup in with this brush. What I do is soak the brush in the bowl filled with hot water while I hop in the shower. When I get out of the shower, the bristles are still warm and really lather up quickly. The bristles lose the warmth quickly, but the first application is very enjoyable.
CONCLUSION:
If you are just starting out or experimenting with a shaving brush, this is your brush. If you are an experienced shaver tired of spending almost $100 on a brush which only lasts a few years, this is your brush. It will give you almost everything a really expensive brush will at a third of the price. While I am a little more picky with the products I use and did generate a lot of cons above, the pros all outweigh the cons strongly. I sincerely recommend this product.
NB: I purchased one of these for my father for Christmas. That should be the ultimate recommendation.
